Thailand announced three major activities around its first MotoGP season opener, the first in Southeast Asia for 25 years. Somkiat Chantra's premier-class debut added a historic home interest. The organisers reported worldwide coverage in more than 200 countries for 800 million viewers. More than 10,000 Grandstand seats sold out in 2 minutes 55 seconds, with demand for other stands also running ahead of previous years.
The press conference announced preparations and ticket sales for PT Grand Prix of Thailand 2025, the season-opening round. Thailand's programme included Dorna Sports' season launch at One Bangkok on 9 February, pre-season testing on 12–13 February and the Grand Prix on 28 February–2 March 2025 at Chang International Circuit. It was the country's sixth year hosting MotoGP.
On 9 January 2025, Tourism and Sports Ministry secretary Kritsada chaired the press conference at CW Tower on Ratchadaphisek Road in Bangkok. SAT, Buriram Province, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Department of Land Transport, PTG Energy, Chang natural mineral water, Thai Honda, Thai Yamaha Motor, Motore Italiano (Ducati Thailand), the circuit, media and other supporters attended.
Tourism and Sports Ministry secretary Kritsada said Thailand's sixth MotoGP event marked its first season opener, scheduled for 28 February–2 March 2025. Thailand would open both the 2025 and 2026 seasons. The 2025 championship comprised 22 rounds across 18 countries, with its opening race returning to Southeast Asia for the first time in 25 years.
The announcement highlighted the ThaiGP’s contribution to sport tourism, the economy and Thailand’s international profile. It cited 205,343 spectators and more than THB 4.759 billion in economic activity in 2024. The following programme included the Season Premiere, pre-season testing and the season-opening race, which organisers said demonstrated Thailand’s capacity to host international motorsport.
SAT Governor Dr Gongsak Yodmani acknowledged the challenge of a shorter preparation period but expressed confidence in the experience and cooperation of the organising partners. He said the season opener would mark a historic moment as Somkiat Chantra became Thailand's first premier-class rider, demonstrating the country's commitment to developing athletes and inspiring young people.
Dorna Sports' Marcos Torroba said Thailand was selected for its circuit readiness, event management and passionate fanbase. Bangkok's season launch would bring MotoGP closer to Thai fans, while Somkiat Chantra's first premier-class season gave the programme added local significance.
Buriram Governor Piya said the combined test and race programme would allow the province to welcome MotoGP visitors for more than two weeks. Agencies used lessons from earlier editions to improve traffic, cleanliness and visitor information, expand accommodation and support homestays that introduced fans to local community life.
Pitak Ratchakitprakarn, President and CEO of PTG Energy, said the company's second year as title sponsor in 2025 supported its aim of improving people's lives through energy and services. Backing MotoGP allowed Thai fans to experience world-class racing at home and reinforced Thailand's position in motorsport, while inspiring younger generations to join the industry.
Chotchanok Chidchob said Dorna Sports had praised Thailand's 2024 off-track programme, including Hero Walk, meet-and-greets, rider parades, the commercial area, Chang Music Connection concerts and the Thai Thai Pavilion. For the following edition, the circuit and organisers aimed to maintain those standards while improving the experience further.
Official ticket sales opened at 14:00, with Grandstand seats selling out in 2 minutes 55 seconds. Race tickets also included complimentary pre-season test access. The organisers expected strong demand across the other stands, supported by fans' enthusiasm for Thai riders.
ThaiGP 2025 offered four three-day race-ticket categories, all including pre-season test access: Grandstand at THB 5,000, with views around the circuit; Rider Stand at THB 3,000, with Marquez, Quartararo and Chantra sections and official rider souvenirs; Brand Stand at THB 2,000, with Honda, Yamaha and Ducati sections offering sponsor souvenirs or prize opportunities; and Side Stand at THB 2,000. For the pre-season test alone on 12–13 February 2025, Grandstand tickets cost THB 500 per day or THB 900 for both days. VIP tickets cost THB 5,000 per day.
PTG offered 25% off race tickets for red PT Max Card Plus holders and 20% for green PT Max Card holders, together with event promotions from PT Maxnitron, Punthai Coffee and Autobacs. Other 20% offers included Chang International Circuit Friend Club and Honda or Yamaha motorcycle keys; Ducati keys qualified only for the Ducati Stand discount.
