It is said to have started around Buriram Railway Station, where students and travellers stopped for a quick snack before continuing their journeys. Similar stalls can be found at markets and transport hubs across the city.

Look for it at local craft centres, community weaving groups and souvenir shops.

Phu Akkanee fabric

Phu Akkanee fabric is made in Ban Charoen Suk, a community on the slopes of an extinct volcano. Local volcanic soil supplies its natural dye, producing soft earth tones from pale brown to deep brick red. Visit the learning centre to see the dyeing and weaving process and buy directly from the community's craftspeople.

Phanom Rung Festival

The annual Phanom Rung Festival takes place at Phanom Rung Historical Park around the full moon of the fifth lunar month. Ceremonies honouring Shiva and colourful processions bring the ancient sanctuary to life, alongside local dance and music. After sunset, a light-and-sound performance illuminates the temple. Check the current programme before planning your visit.

Sunrise and sunset alignment through 15 doorways

On four occasions each year, sunlight aligns through all 15 doorways at Phanom Rung around sunrise or sunset. The effect highlights the precision of the ancient sanctuary's design and offers a memorable reason to visit. Check the current viewing dates and local arrangements before travelling.

Prakhon Chai Candle Festival

Before Buddhist Lent each year, local temples carve elaborate candles for Prakhon Chai's procession. Music and traditional dance accompany the displays as they travel through the district. Visitors can watch the craftwork, try local food and browse community products.
